Three of these teams - Georgia State, Lamar, and South Alabama - will be playing their first seasons of intercollegiate football in 2010 (though Lamar had a team through the 1980s, and South Alabama played a club-level schedule in 2009).

Savannah State had a new helmet design in 2009 (shown above).

Lamar did not have a football team from 1990 through 2009. I have received descriptions of some of the team's earlier helmet designs not yet depicted here:

• 1973-1974: helmets were red with white facemasks, white/red/white stripes, and a logo consisting of the interlocking letters "LU" which were white in color;
• 1977-1978: helmets were similar to the "1979-1980" design shown above, but with the addition of a red stripe;
• 1984: red helmets with white "L" logo and white facemasks (see photo below).
