Comments

North Dakota and South Dakota will be new members of both this conference and the NCAA Division I - Football Championship Subdivision in 2008.

Information about other historical helmet designs for these teams would be greatly appreciated.

Historical Helmets

CAL POLY

? - 1998? 1999? -

I have not received any information about earlier helmet designs used by Cal Poly.

NORTH DAKOTA

? - 1968 1969 - 1970 1971 - 1985
1986 - 1989 1993 -

SOUTH DAKOTA

c.early-mid 1990s? ? - 2003 2004 -

During at least part of the 1999 season, South Dakota used a white, script "Coyotes" logo, narrowly outlined in some dark color, on red helmets with white facemasks; I would appreciate a copy of that "Coyotes" logo.

I have received a copy of what is said to be a helmet logo used by USD in 1991 and during the 1970s; the logo is a rather simple, white "U" which was worn on red helmet shells. I would appreciate photographs of this helmet.

SOUTHERN UTAH

c.mid 1990s c.late 1990s ? - 2000
2002 2003 -
*see note 1 below

A few years ago, I received information about a couple of other historical helmet designs for SUU, which I unfortunately lost in a hard drive failure - I would appreciate it greatly if the person who sent the information could please re-send.

*1 The logo shown on this helmet was actually worn only on the right sides of the helmets in 2002; on the left sides, white players' uniform numerals with black outlines were used. The 2001 helmet design was identical, except that the right side of the helmet was left "blank" (no bird head decals). I would appreciate a clear photograph showing the LEFT side of either the 2001 or 2002 SUU helmet design.

UC DAVIS

? - 1998? 1999? -

I have not received any information about old helmet designs for UC Davis; the two shown above have both been in use since I started this web site. I believe that the first helmet shown above had been in use for a long time, perhaps twenty years or more, before it was replaced in the late 1990s.
